The last of High Kings tells the story of seventeen-year-old Frankie Griffin, and how he struggles through the summer as he waits for the rusults of his end-of-school exams. He is convinced he's going to fail these exams and all his dream are on the scrap heap. Frankie's family are not making life easy for him. His mother is a Celtic warrior queen throwback, who insists her children are descended from the ancient Hing Kings of Ireland. She's conviced that Protestants are enemies of Irish State ad that the British are emissaries of the Devil. Frankie's father is a flamboyant actor with a tenuous grip on reaity. He has just landed the plum part of Othello in a New youk production and plans to be awayfor the summer. Frankie is also becoming increasingly obsessed with girls, particularly Jayne....
