The film pays tribute to a well-loved professor, Hyakken Uchida, who quits his teaching job in university to devote himself to writing. Starting at the age of 60, his former students hold annual birthday parties for the professor, toasting him by asking "Mahda-kai?" ("Are you ready to go on to other world?"). He raises his glass and answers with a robust "No, not yet." At the fifteenth birthday party hold by student.
