At the end of the Ming Dynasty, the country was in total chaos. The power-hungry eunuch Cho Fa Shun was plotting to usurp the throne from the Emperor. Princess Cheung Ping (Michelle Yim) and Princess Chiu Yan (Candice Yu) decided to thwart his conspiracy. But as soon as Cho and his accomplices were eliminated, another threat reared its ugly head in the form of renegade general Li Chi Shing, who staged a military coup and commanded his army to the capital in a bid to take control of the country.
Meanwhile, the Emperor was seeking an able husband for Cheung Ping who could save the country from certain doom. A talented young official, Chow Sai Hin (Damian Lau), was chosen. But the night Cheung Ping was to marry Sai Hin, the insurrectionary army finally seized the capital. The Emperor hung himself in desperation as Cheung Ping and Sai Hin got separated in the ensuing anarchy... will the lovers reunite with each other in the face of extreme adversity?
