Based on an episode in the classic Ming Dynasty novel The Water Margin, Three Sinners is a Huangmei Opera about love, betrayal, murder, and redemption set nine centuries ago. The evergreen Li Li-hua plays one of the three sinners, a lady caught between a tempestuous suitor and her jealous husband (Yen Chuan, Li's real-life husband and the film's director). Shot in Eastmancolor and Shawscope, it is one of the grandest costume pictures in the Shaw Brothers library.
